ChequeMaster can print cheque details in English, Hindi and Gujarati. The language is set per cheque book, as Print Language in the book's default settings, so different books can use different languages on the same PC.
What the language setting changes
It affects the text ChequeMaster writes onto the cheque — principally the amount in words, which is the field where language matters most. The figures remain numerals, and the date remains a date.
The payee name is whatever you type or import, so a Hindi payee name prints in Hindi regardless of the setting.
Setting it
- Open the cheque book from Cheque Book.
- Set Print Language in the default settings panel.
- Click Save Settings.
Because it is a per-book default, you can override it on an individual cheque when needed.
Check the font renders
Non-Latin scripts depend on a font that contains the characters. ChequeMaster lets you set the font per field, so if Hindi or Gujarati text prints as boxes or question marks, the field's font is the thing to change — pick one installed on your PC that covers Devanagari or Gujarati.
Test on plain paper before a real cheque. Script rendering is also worth checking at the size you will print: Devanagari at a small point size can lose legibility in a way Latin text does not, and a cheque amount has to be unambiguous.
What is not supported
Being straight about this, because it comes up from customers in the Gulf: ChequeMaster does not print Arabic cheque details. The supported languages are English, Hindi and Gujarati.
In practice this is rarely the obstacle it sounds like. Cheque stationery across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman and Bahrain is printed bilingually in Arabic and English, and businesses there fill in the payee, amount and date in English — which is what banks in those markets expect. ChequeMaster prints English onto those Arabic-and-English cheques exactly as intended. See Emirates NBD or QNB for what those layouts look like.
Requesting a language
More languages are being added, and requests genuinely influence the order. If you need one that is not listed, tell us which and what market you are in.
