Installation is deliberately dull — there are no components to pick and no server to point at. If you have already downloaded the ZIP, this takes about a minute.
The steps
- Right-click the downloaded
.zipand choose Extract All. - Open the extracted folder and double-click
ChequeMaster Setup.exe. - If Windows shows a User Account Control prompt, choose Yes. The installer needs permission to write to Program Files.
- Work through the installer prompts and let it finish.
When it is done you will find Cheque Master on your desktop and in the Start menu. Launch it from either.
What the installer asks you
One choice during setup is worth pausing on: your default currency. This is what the software uses when it converts a figure into words, so getting it right saves editing later. It is not permanent — you can change it in Settings afterwards — but the first cheque you print will use whatever you picked here.
Most banks and their cheque layouts are already loaded, so there is no data import step. You can go straight from installation to creating a cheque book.
Where your data lives
ChequeMaster keeps its database on your own computer. Your cheque records, payees and bank accounts are not uploaded anywhere. That is good for privacy and it has one practical consequence worth planning for: if the PC dies, the data goes with it unless you have a backup. Take a backup once you have real records in there.
Common installation problems
- "Windows protected your PC" (SmartScreen). Click More info, then Run anyway. SmartScreen flags installers it has not seen distributed at high volume.
- The installer closes with no message. Nearly always antivirus. Check its quarantine or logs, allow the file, and run setup again.
- "You need administrator rights". On a work machine you may not have them. Right-click the setup file and choose Run as administrator, or ask whoever administers the PC.
- Installed but will not launch. Restart Windows once. If it still will not open, tell us what happens and we will look at it.
